Marketing and Life 101 People only care about themselves!

Marketing and Life 101- People only care about themselves!

After reading “How to Win Friends & Influence People” I am still learning and trying to apply those concepts in my own life.  What I’m really getting is that people only really care about themselves!

I don’t mean that to sound like a negative or a selfish thing but it’s innately true.  Think about it, the only reason you are really reading this blog post is to see what you can get from it.  It is also my hope that you do get something from it!

At the heart of copywriting, marketing, advertising, and even putting in resumes, we can sometimes be self centered.  I know, for me, this was and still sometimes an issue.

If we simply cater everything to the other person, then we will more than likely win them to our way of thinking.

Meaning cater our resumes to our potential future employer will separate us.  The last time I put in a resume, I actually put myself in my employer’s chair and asked myself exactly what type of person do I need for this job.  I brain-stormed, came up with a number of points, and included them in the body of my resume!

In conversation, I TRY to practice what’s called conversation generosity.  Meaning I try to actually listen to the other person, let them speak fully, and agree wherever and whenever I can enthusiastically.

In my marketing, I’m trying to put myself in my prospects shoes and writing to them personally.  I know that this may sound so simple, easy, and like common sense but believe it or not, not a lot of people actually apply this.

It is all really simple concepts, but sometimes it isn’t easy.  The most important thing is, well if you can get the book (How to Win Friends and Influence People), and just try to be the best person you can possibly be and know that in all your communications try to communicate the benefit for the other person in all your dealings!

Staying Motivated and Not Knowing How

A couple of thoughts as far as staying motivated and not knowing how, I have and there are actually two different topics within that title.  Staying motivated is one and the other one goes a little deeper.

Not Knowing How

I have been doing a lot of research on success and how to achieve goals and things along that nature.  A lot of times I hear that you don’t need to necessarily know exactly how things are going to happen.  For example “How am I going to become a keynote speaker” but rather just focus on becoming better at speaking, still thinking and focusing on becoming a speaker, and just not focus on HOW exactly I’m going to make that happen.

I will admit this is a complex topic to me.  There have been times in my life when things just worked out and the solution came “out of the blue” and some times in life I have severely complicated things by trying to force it to happen sooner.

I guess ultimately the ideal place is thinking about your “why” and that will give you inspiration and motivation.  That inspiration and motivation will drive you towards where you really want to go even if you don’t know consciously where that is.  It’s almost like trusting your subconscious to guide you because you don’t know where exactly that is in your conscious mind.

I hear the analogy of driving in the dark.  You can only see 100-200 feet in front of you via your headlights but in the end if you keep driving you will eventually get to your destination.

Sometimes you just got to go after your problems!

Sometimes you just got to go after your problems!

Case in point!

Long story short!  I was a little behind on my car payment and was dreading the phone call from the dealership.  It’s a mom and pop’s dealership and so when you are a little late, they usually call fairly quickly after not receiving the payment after 1 or 2 days.

Anyhow, there was a number with the 858 area code on my phone which was in the same place where I bought the car.  I figured that was them with their friendly reminder as to what’s going on with the car payment.

I waited before listening to the voicemail because I wanted to make sure of a couple things and when I would have the money together for the payment.  After thinking about this and worrying about it for about 3 days, I finally cracked and listened to the dreaded voicemail.

I listened to it and realized that the call was not concerning my late payment and in fact, wasn’t the dealership at all.  So, I just laughed at myself for stressing out for the past couple of days for nothing.

I still have the issue of taking care of my car payment and all but I no longer have that stress bothering me.

Sometimes you just have to attack whatever the problem is head on!

Everyday listen to audios, read good books, and network for the best success!

Everyday listen to audios, read good books, and network for the best success!

Every single day we are bombarded by negativity.  The media, other people, and even our own selves!

What I’m learning by my memberships with the Global Information Network and the Empower Network is that everyday you need to feed your mind for the best success.

You feed your mind by listening to motivational, inspirational, and successful type audios, reading good books, and network with people who have the level of success that you want.

Success is a lifestyle and not a point in time or a destination.  I myself have thought that once you get to a “certain point” then I can consider myself successful.  What I have learned is that once you consider yourself as “having arrived” then look out because calamity is quickly coming.

Success is something that has to constantly progressive and continuous.  It is certainly not a point in time but a lifestyle.

Don’t let distractions rob you of productivity!

We all have been subject to this one of letting distractions rob us of our productivity!

Today was one of those days for me.  I continue making the intention of writing a certain amount each day and it just didn’t happen.  I’m personally still working on getting things back together in my own life with my kids and ex wife and all.

It’s a sensitive issue and every time it is brought up in conversation, I end up focusing on those things which aren’t too pleasing and it robs me of my energy, motivation, and enthusiasm.  The main issue is working on rebuilding the relationship and getting all of my old debts paid off.  It’s happening, but not as fast as I would like it too but eventually I know it will.

The only way I found that I could work through it was basically after a few hours just opening a good book and reading for a while.  That book happened to be Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich.”

I read the chapter on desire and a quote that I would like to share is “Wishing will not bring riches.  But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.”

Why I stop short of hitting my goals in different instances was because I lacked (and am still working on it) persistence which does not recognize failure.  I am also reminded of Thomas Edison where he failed 10,000 times trying to create the incandescent light bulb.  10,000 times, I mean I would have got so frustrated after 10 times and probably gave up!

So even in this being my blogging business, I haven’t even come close to 10,000 blog posts.  So if had to persist in order to become successful, then I must persist as well.

Don’t let anything slow you down!
